Rotherham Clinical Commissioning Group and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council commissioned us to develop and implement a campaign to address the issue of suicide in the town.
A general awareness campaign – Be the One to talk, listen, care – was designed to raise the profile of mental health issues and services in the town along with more targeted campaigns aimed at specific groups at greater risk of suicide.
We worked with a local production company to create a film shot on location around Rotherham. The film encouraged people to ‘be the one’ to ask if they were worried about someone, a friend, a relative or a complete stranger.
It was played on the big screen at Rotherham United football fixtures and shared via social media and various websites.
There was great engagement with the dedicated website where people made pledges to do their bit to help people who may be at risk of suicide.
A sensitive and timely social media campaign helped to direct people to services, raise awareness of suicide at key times of the year and create a conversation across Rotherham.
