About
South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) has been awarded funding through the Opportunity Development Fund initiative to develop a shared capital pipeline for South Yorkshire. The focus of this work will be to consider opportunities across key thematic areas of Housing, Education and Health, with a view to addressing heath inequalities through investment in capital projects.
By bringing together various partners and stakeholders we hope to be able to identify and develop a focussed pipeline of projects which support the objectives of the levelling up agenda and tackle known inequalities. We will work with partners in those areas to undertake an assessment of inequalities across health, housing and education in the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority area with the aim to identify a pipeline of potential projects, identify key opportunities and deliverables that take account of and stimulate changes to the public estate that the Covid pandemic has brought about
You can hear all about the project and how you can get involved on the Teams session held on the 2nd August for anyone who hasn’t been able to attend the workshops.
We are seeking to deliver the overall objectives of One Public Estate (OPE) by identifying projects that will benefit from additional funding, but will also target improvements and culture change in SYMCA’s delivery of the OPE programme, particularly, but not exclusively in the areas of collaboration, widening partner participation and output delivery.
Part of the work involves establishing some networks across South Yorkshire to facilitate debate and encourage collaboration to bring together ideas and pipeline projects to make the best use of the public estate and address the issues identified through a better understanding of relevant data.
With this in mind we held a series of workshop across the region with key stakeholders based in the four Local Authority areas with the aim to:
This will enable us to get ahead of the curve, and be ready to make the most of future funding opportunities which will address the needs of the South Yorkshire population. Doncaster Estates Partnership are leading on this exercise to independently co-ordinate the needs of all key stakeholders. There is a tight timeline for delivery, with output needed by early September to be ready to apply for potential funding streams.
